The Theotoky Estate

Land, Heritage, and a Living Tradition

Just a short drive from Villa Claudia, in the heart of Corfu’s Ropa Valley, lies the historic Theotoky Estate — a place where land, heritage, and winemaking have been intertwined for generations.

The estate has belonged to the Theotoky family for over five generations, a family deeply rooted in Corfu’s cultural and political history. In the 1960s, the estate entered a new chapter under Georgios A. Theotoky and his wife, Claudia, whose vision and devotion reshaped its future. They restored the old cellar, embraced organic farming, and committed to producing wines that express the land and the passage of time with honesty and restraint.

Spread across 300 acres of vineyards, olive groves, and farmland, the estate’s vineyards cover 15 hectares, gently sloping at an altitude of 50 metres above sea level and just one kilometre from the coast. This unique proximity to the sea lends the wines a subtle mineral character and natural salinity — a quiet signature of the Corfiot landscape.

The Vineyards & The Wines

Today, three grape varieties are cultivated with care: Robola, for the estate’s elegant white wines; Cabernet Sauvignon, for structured reds; and Syrah, for refined rosé.

Among them, the Cuvée Speciale (Robola) is known for its ageing potential of up to seven years, while Cuvée Claudia (Robola) matures in oak barrels for six months, gaining depth and complexity.

The wines are vinified and aged in stainless steel tanks before maturing further in bottle, sealed with natural cork to allow them to breathe and evolve over time, expressing both varietal character and the influence of their coastal terroir.

Philosophy & Recognition

Theotoky Estate follows organic and biodynamic principles, guided by nature rather than force. The soil is naturally enriched using manure from the estate’s own animals, while nitrogen-fixing plants grow between the vines. Indigenous yeasts are used during fermentation to enhance floral and citrus aromas, and even the bottling process follows the lunar calendar, respecting the rhythms of the earth.

This philosophy has earned the estate international recognition, including Organic Winery of the Year – Greece (Berlin International Wine Competition), Winery of the Year – Greece (New York International Wine Competition), TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards (every year since 2020), and a nomination for the World Luxury Travel Awards 2026.

At Villa Claudia, a wine tasting inspired by the Theotoky Estate is not simply a tasting. It is an invitation into Corfu’s living heritage, where craftsmanship, nature, and history are experienced slowly, glass by glass.

A Wine Experience at Villa Claudia

From the Estate to the Glass

At Villa Claudia, the wines of the Theotoky Estate are not presented simply as labels, but as part of a living tradition.

Private tastings may be arranged within the grounds of the villa, allowing guests to explore the character of Corfu’s land and sea through carefully selected wines, guided by knowledge and quiet ritual. Each tasting unfolds as an intimate moment, shaped by conversation, light, and the setting of the estate itself.

It is an experience that connects place and history, offering a deeper understanding of the family’s heritage and the landscape that continues to shape their wines — enjoyed slowly, as all meaningful things should be.
